• Do I need to be a hardcore coder?

  No. The bar is Python at intermediate level + prompt engineering + one cloud platform. The differentiator is healthcare domain depth (clinical workflows, FHIR, regulator rules), not LeetCode. Pure ML engineers without domain context lose to clinical-AI hybrids.

• Is this just hype that will fade?

  No. FDA has approved 1,000+ AI/ML medical devices and the EU AI Act now requires human oversight roles. The job is regulated into existence. What might fade: generic 'AI consultant' titles. What stays: clinical-NLP engineer, AI safety reviewer, RAG ops on medical content.
