What this job actually is
PV is how the pharma world catches side-effects after a drug is on the market. Your day looks like this: a hospital nurse in Germany files an adverse-event form, it lands in your safety database (Argus, ARISg), you read it, you code the symptoms in MedDRA, you classify seriousness, and you file an ICSR to the regulator inside the legal clock (24 hours for fatal, 15 days for serious). Repeat 8-12 cases a day.
Why India keeps hiring for it
Every drug that reaches a patient must be monitored for life. India runs PV for ~70% of global pharma because regulators accept work done from India and labour cost is 1/5th of the US. Demand is structural, not cyclical.

Can a fresher get a PV job without a course?
Sometimes, at Tier-3 BPOs at ₹2.4-3 LPA. With a structured PV course (Argus + MedDRA + 50 cases on resume), L1 offers come from MNC CROs at ₹3.8-6 LPA. The course pays for itself in 4 months.
Is PV being killed by AI?
No. AI drafts the narrative and pre-codes terms, but the medical judgement, regulator submission, and audit work cannot be automated under current GVP rules. The job shifts up; entry-level L1 work shrinks ~20% over 3 yrs, mid-level QC work grows.
Night shifts?
PV is global. Most L1 roles are India-day shift (8am-6pm IST). Some MNCs run a US shift (6pm-3am IST) at +25% pay.
Best city to start?
Hyderabad and Bengaluru carry ~60% of India PV hiring. Pune and Mumbai trail. Tier-2 cities (Vizag, Kochi) are picking up via remote MNC roles.
Can non-pharmacy graduates do PV?
Yes: B.Sc Life Sciences, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BPT and MBBS are all hireable at L1. The decisive filter is written English, not the degree.
